Victory Over Death

January 27, 2020 (Bible Devotional)

Those who trust in the Lord need not fear death. Our maker has conquered the keys of the grave. We have a future beyond this world. The time will come, not too far from now when the dead in Christ will rise. The same God who created us out of dust can recreate us from dust. This is great news. We can be encouraged to know that our God is not deterred by the reality of death.

The Bible makes it clear that death is an enemy. We are never to think that death is part of life. Death occurs as a direct result of sin. God never intended that mankind should die. It is sin and disobedience that introduced death to the dying world. Death is not part of life. It is the very opposite of the same. Yet, sadly, as a people, we might be tempted to think that death is a natural process. That is not the truth. Death is a strange act. It is an enemy to the human race.

But Praise is to God. Jesus guarantees that mankind should live again. We have the victory over death. Christ has the power of resurrection. And those who trust in him will not die. We know from the Bible that death is asleep. Those who go into the long nap will not remember anything until the appointed time. No thoughts, no rewards, and no memories live in the land of the dead.

Here is the good news: Those who trust in the Lord will rise to conquer death. We will soon realize that death has no hold on their lives. At the trump of the archangel, we will come up in the first resurrection. And as we come up from that long nap, it will feel like a twinkling of an eye. Recounting on our own experience, we shall ask, O death where are your sting and victory?
