A Message for the Ages

A look at the message for the new Charlie’s Angels

I am sure you all know about Charlie and his Angels. The older people on here might be familiar with the original which aired on TV in 1976. Those around my age, would most likely remember the 2000 movie with Lucy Lu, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore.

Well guess what has been add to the list of this years “Hollywood Reboots”.

Yep That’s right. Charlie’s Angels is coming back to the big screen.

God did I love the Movie as a kid. These Females were Fucking kick ass and they looked good too. I should be excited right?

HA I feel like they’re going to butcher it.

So the new movie is directed and , correct me if I am wrong, written by Elizabeth Banks. To my knowledge, She has expanded the Townsend Agency making it an international private security firm. I have to admit, this idea was pretty cool. So I looked for more info… and I came across this.

And here’s the quote:

“One of the statements this movie makes is that you should probably believe women. We have as much validity in what we’re feeling and how we want to go about living in the world, being in the world, and that was really important to me, that we felt like we had characters that were being taken seriously and given a chance to live their best life.”

Ok. So since I haven’t really seen the ORIGINAL Charlie’s Angels, this piece will mainly focus on the 2000 movie.

If memory serves right, in the movie the girls are under cover “Agents” for Townsend. Most of the time, they were disguising themselves, lying about their lives, and using their “Womenly features” to get the evidence they needed.

Take a moment to look at the trailer:

I can’t even count how many different times The Angels put on an act. The massage parlor, Drew Barrymore at the race, Lucy Liu as the instructor. Those are just the ones I recognized.

Assuming that they do the same in the 2019 movie (I mean just look at the trailer again… If you can….). It seems as though most of the Angel’s original methods are still being used.

And you expect us to see the message as “Believe Women”?

Now I can’t really find much about the story as of yet, so expect a follow to this piece once I find out more, but like I said before I am going to assume use of previous methods. These women hide their identity, lie to people, all to get whatever job done. Not only that but let’s look at the fact that many times their job may be to collect evidence. Which means evidence is needed as proof.

See where I am going with this?

You want your message to be “Believe women” while showing us women who are lying and stealing to get what they want or need.

Ummmmm….. no.

Hopefully as more comes out about the movie, I will have more to say. But as of write now, it’s up there with Captain Marvel.

Still haven’t watched it.
