How cringy videos on YouTube changed my life

For the past 10 years I’ve been managing YouTube channels to make a living, and spending so much time on social media made me think of how generations approach social media and how that approach changed throughout the years.

Thumbnail of one of my cringe videos ;D

Going from my 20s to my 30s has been quite of turn for me.
Now I see people in their early 20s having already a business, monetising their social media platforms, and so, putting their face out there; in my head, that was never a thing I could do.

Until I just did it.

Being in your early 20s, with enough mental space to look around you and have an idea of what goes on in the world, with not too many fixations in your head, may set you up for something big.

My personal situation
I have been studying media before working in media.
When I was at uni, Facebook was starting to become a thing here in Italy, and we were starting to see the first bedroom successes of the people next door becoming famous on the internet.

That phenomenon dragged my attention for years.
I’ve always been fascinated and also low key jealous of these people just putting their face on the internet and making it big.
I always felt like it wasn’t worth sharing my thoughts because who would give a damn.

Bad mistake, but then something erupted.

The cringe part
Almost in reaction to that, after working for some time on movie sets and TV productions, I started making some videos in Italian on my channel.

With my very local accent and my crooked teeth, it felt very uncomfortable being on camera, but it paid off.
I’m showing you here a video from that period.
The title translated is The Story of the broken Penis, based on an, allegedly, trues story.
