Free Resources for Beginning Worship Leaders.

In the summer of 2012 I joined the worship band for my church’s youth group with absolutely no knowledge of how to lead a congregation or a team. Our youth band had an almost complete turnover of student musicians due to our previous students all graduating from high school. I was a freshman in high school and had just bought my first electric guitar (a Squire Jr. Strat) and I could not have been more excited. Little did I know how much effort would be needed to build and manage a steady worship team. After almost six years of experience as both a musician and a team leader, I have found some excellent free sources for beginning worship leaders that can make the processes of learning a little bit less intimidating.

5. Spotify- This one is a little bit different from all of the others but can be just as useful. While the paid version of Spotify is much better than the free version, it does cost ten dollars ($10) a month. The free version still allows you to subscribe to artists and make playlists. I would suggest making a playlist of song that you either have done in worship or would like to do (maybe make two- past and future playlists) so that you can easily look at the songs and design set lists.

While leading worship is a spiritually based act, the preparation is based primarily in team building and management, just like any other group.
