COURTNEY HAMMERLE EXCLUSIVE INSIDER REPORT

Meet Courtney Hammerle! An advocate for autism awareness, athlete and rising mogul in her community. Hailing from Oak Park, MI Courtney, having all the determination and ambition in the world, unveiled her purpose through the experience she gained in life. Being a graduate from Ferndale High School, she gained interest in a particular field of study that tends to not get enough attention as it needs. Although she was a beast when it came to sports like Volleyball, Softball & Basketball, Courtney would be using her competitive and competent nature to shed light on one of the biggest problems the world faces today, autism.

Working as a behavioral technician soon to be a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) in the Royal Oak area, Courtney has had the opportunity to not only become a source of positive energy and an outlet for autistic children but she also has been able to enlighten those around her with the knowledge she has obtained working in this field.

What is autism? Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. People with ASD often have problems with social communication and interaction, and restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests. People with ASD may also have different ways of learning, moving, or paying attention.

Day to day Courtney would assess her clients with what’s called ABA. Applied behavior analysis. ABA is a therapy that helps kids with autism learn skills and lessen problematic behavior like hurting themselves. It’s crucial to have the necessary skills and comprehension to properly assess a client to address their needs or agitations flawlessly.

When asking Courtney what the most challenging part of working with an autistic person was she replied, “The communication barrier is the most challenging. It’s hard to sometimes find out what’s going on all while trying to avoid being bitten, grabbed or attacked.” This field of work requires attention to detail, strong communication skills and a natural love for humanity. Its no secret Courtney has a big heart.

In the near future, Courtney will be going to graduate school to obtain her Master’s degree putting her in a position to potentially start her own practice/firm.
