Problems that annoy the customers are the problems that should have already been solved. These problems are obvious, everyone have solved it. A mobile app for a bank, an online menu for a restaurant or a digital recharge capability for a telco are not optional but essential.
Problems the customers endure are the problems that are difficult to solve. Customers endure it only because there aren’t many who have solved those problems well. You be the first to solve these problems and the customers would love you for it. You ignore it, and they will dump you to move to the brand that solves it first. A bank account that takes days to open, a call center that makes the customer wait, an insurance company that makes it hard to initiate a claim are all problem that the customers endure.
Problems that customers feel, but can’t articulate are the most difficult to solve. To solve these brands need to understand the customer’s intent, their motives and their expected outcomes. They need look beyond the obvious, and look for unspoken needs and pains. The chances of success here is minuscule but the rewards are spectacular. Automatic delivery of medicine based on the prescribed schedule or a diabetic socks that monitors the temperature of your foot to reduce the risk of foot ulceration are solutions to the problems customers felt but didn’t articulate.
