The Strange New World of Publishing

Self-publishing itself is not a new term but where it used to hold a negative connotation, it has suddenly become the coveted dance partner. Most of us have at least one book inside just aching to be released to the public but writing it may be the easiest part of the process. It appears the straightforward process of publishing has mysteriously converted into a sophisticated discipline that they had educated none of us for.

Funny how history repeats itself as I feel reminiscent of a similar time when new positions were popping up daily in the digital marketing world. Actions like blogging, tweeting and texting seemed as foreign as careers in Social Media Management, Content development and Pay per Click Advertiser. I remember sitting in many a boardroom desperately trying to “sell’ the need for social media presence, analytics and paid keyword advertising to clients

Let’s take a peek at just the tip of the iceberg of the self-publishing world that will continue to expand rapidly in 2019.
