Create? You Already Do This!

You were born to create. It is embedded in your DNA. Now that you know, you should stop saying that you aren’t the “creative type”.

You are.

The problem is you begin to compare yourself to others around you. I get it. You want to look at Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk for your financial inspiration. But you aren’t either one of them.

There is danger in comparison.

I have even heard the advice to surround yourself with the people who are in the places or experiencing the things that you want to experience.

I believe it is sound advice. If you hang around those people or divulge in certain discussions, then some nuggets or gems of wisdom may just fall into your lap. Or you could just learn from witnessing an up-close view of success.

There is nothing wrong with desiring to be better or to improve your life.

You can only be you.

No one else has had your exact experiences to shape you into the amazing human that you are. You are unique. Even if you were to clone yourself, the clone would only have the physical attributes of you. The moment the clone comes into existence, the experience would be different for both of you.

A little far-fetched of an example, but you can follow along the bread crumb trail. The very thing that we may consider flaws or mishaps are unique to us. It has shaped your perspective on life and the many things around you like family or success.

“Creative” is not a type.

There is no creative type. We all create. We are all creative. You are creative. Say it with me now:

You still don’t believe me. Why don’t you think you’re creative? Maybe you didn’t have an interest in arts or music from an early age, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t creative.

Often times we think of creativity in relation to those who may be professional writers, singers, painters, artists, or dancers — as the definition says — producing an artistic work. In that same definition, it mentions the use of imagination or original ideas.

You do that every day.

You have original thoughts every day. You use your imagination every day. You may not be aware, but you do.

Think about this past week. How many problems occurred in your life? What about yesterday? Today?

Did you solve any of these problems? Or did you just let it be?

Problem-solving is a major way we exhibit our creativity.

The young, the old, single or married, parents or not… We all face challenges and problems with each new day. How we approach and solve such problems involves our imagination and original thoughts.

The grandfather who wants to connect and relate to his tech-savvy and digitally involved grandson may decide to learn a new skill or brush up on an old skill in a new way. Like learning how to play chess on a digital platform, and then challenging his grandson to a game.

A single mom who was recently fired from her job — so close to the holidays, but she still has a desire to provide a great holiday experience for her child. Instead of stretching herself thinner by buying decorations and gifts, she uses the skills she already has to create masterpieces. She creates a small Christmas tree from cardboard boxes. She lets her child decorate the tree with cut-out coloring pages for ornaments. For gifts, she bakes passionately and shares them with friends and family.

A newlywed couple is celebrating the holiday with family at their home. Frantic with the pressure of appearing perfect, the couple decides that anything they have to offer to others with love and gratitude is the best offer. Shifting their focus from appearances to being present — being in the moment — with friends and family releases much stress and creates room for love to flow freely.

Let go of the pressure.

Have you been pressuring yourself to be creative? Stop it. Just stop. Don’t add any extra pressure. You are creative…by nature.

Relax. Take a deep breath. Exhale. Release the pressure.

Creativity is a part of you. You are creative. You may look around you to view the beauty of what others have created. Let that only be an inspiration.
