7 Easy Strategies to Instantly Transform Negative Thoughts

Patience and consistency will yield great results.

What would your best friend think if every time she walked past you, you’d say things like “Your butt looks disgusting!” or “You can’t do this!” to her?

Well, it’s pretty much what many of us do to ourselves constantly. Every day, most of your time is spent talking to yourself.

Whether you are having a life crisis or a tough day, it’s easy to get caught in a negative thought spiral. It seems impossible to escape but it’s less difficult than you think with the right tools.

Discovering the following simple methods helped me and my coaching clients catch and ultimately transform negative thinking. If you apply them long enough, you will go from inner critic to inner cheerleader.

Katie Byron’s method has helped millions break through negative thought patterns. When you encounter a destructive thought, ask yourself these 4 questions:

2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?

Again, a “Yes” or “No” question. Take your time to reflect.

3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?

Tune into your feelings, behaviors, and bodily sensations when you believe that thought. How does it make you feel?

4. Who would you be without that thought?

Reflect upon the situation, this time without your negative thought. How would you feel, behave or respond differently without it?

After dropping the thought, indulge in that new feeling. Remember it is your choice to truly question it, drop it, and feel freer without it.

Pre-written affirmations are powerful, but they can get useless if you don’t know how to stop your constant inner critic. That’s where STOP affirmations come into play.
